After you have applied all but the last coat, it is a good idea to gently sand the surface of your boards. Gentle is a key word here. Use a fine sand paper (320 grit or higher) to smooth the surface of your boards. Try to avoid sanding over any decals. Clean your board of dust after sanding and apply the final coat of poly.

Polycrylic over vinyl wrap. Now, I will say that from time to time, the vinyl will curl in on itself if I had applied a heavy coat of the spray polycrylic, so many crafters choose not to use a spray sealant at all. I prefer to spray several thin layers allowing it to dry in between, If you have a quality product that needs a little TLC, skip the spray and go with a hand. The vinyl has a tendency to want to lift up if you don’t have a surface that’s perfectly smooth. You can go ahead and paint it or spray paint it but just be sure to give it a really long time to dry before applying the vinyl. You want to make sure that your vinyl adheres well and that nothing comes up with the transfer paper. Polyurethane over vinyl decals .can i do it. Close. 1. Posted by 2 years ago. Archived. Polyurethane over vinyl decals .can i do it. I applied some vinyl decals to some corn hole boards i am making and was wondering if i can poly over the top of them to make the decal smooth and flush to the surface. 6 comments. share. save. Alternative Finish for Cornhole Boards. Although polyurethane is the most asked about product we get when it comes to finishing cornhole boards, polycrylic is also a commonly used coating by cornhole players. Polycrylic is a fast drying, water-based clear coating that will allow you to protect the surface of your board and add a little slide.

We use top of the line 3M High Gloss vinyl with a permanent adhesive. Our vinyl also has air release channels for easy and virtually bubble free application. Printed size of wraps is slightly larger than 24x48 to help with wrap alignment on your boards Printed with OEM Roland Inks for Superior Once you have your letters down and put clear varnish or the Polyurethane over vinyl, this material will shrink in hot weather. When it shrinks and the hot sun reactivates the glue on the vinyl and the edges will start curling. You can use frog juice or cover it with a sheet of clear vinyl. Your playing with fire my friend. Been there, done it. Your permanent vinyl should well adhere to wood that's treated with a base coat so long as your project is kept inside. If you want to try a topcoat, I would let the vinyl adhesive cure for 24-48 hours before adding a topcoat so the adhesives don't mix and cause the vinyl to peel. INSTALLING DECALS OR WRAP (* Recommended * - Although vinyl is a sturdy product it's recommended to use heat from a blow dryer to go over your wrap or decal a few more times after the initial install. It will help the vinyl adhere to the surface for a longer lasting outcome. Especially in humid or moist conditions.

I have worked with vinyl graphics for almost 30 years in the commercial vehicle lettering industry. we have custom designed everything and now graphics for cornhole boards. Graphics that we have either cut from solid opaque vinyl or digital prints can be coated over with no problem. One thing that you must be aware of is the cheep calendered film. I am building my first cornhole board. I'd like to customize my board with large acrylic self adhesive stickers. My plan is to make a cut out of the sticker and apply several coats of paint over it to allow for the thickness of the sticker. Then remove the cut out and apply the sticker in the footprint and apply the finish. I'm trying to avoid any raised area on the board. My question is if I. If you have a Wall Decal (matte finish and not super-strong adhesive), use a VERY light coat of polyurethane. Mod Podge is another product that I have heard customers state they have used over their wall decal stickers. The polyurethane tends to curl the edges of a vinyl sticker and with the lighter adhesive, the strength of the adhesive can break down.... on a Wall Decal Sticker. I've searched many moons for an answer, and have whittled it down to either a.) Minwax Polycrylic spray b.) 2k urethane spray can . Wood is unfinished maple with the decals on top. I dont have access to a spray rig (and I understand that you shouldn't brush on clear over a decal) so spray can it is.

-Cut backer paper away and remove -Hinge wrap back over and lay on board surface -Squeegee wrap down onto board surface -Hinge and pull backer paper back on other side. Min-wax polycrylic works great for edge sealing or sealing your boards before installation. Clean your Cornhole board wraps with a damp towel. Store your boards in a clean. The other cornhole board finish that is very popular is polycrylic. Polycrylic is a water-based product that’s often used when people are going for more of a glossy/clear appearance. It’s often used on on lighter wood surfaces, such as maple and birch and also used to cover decals and paint since it usually doesn’t leave a yellowish tint. Can I polyurethane over vinyl decals/stickers? I'm doing a sort of craft project. What my original thought was that I would stain the wood, apply the decals (it's just an inspirational quote), and then polyurethane over top of it to seal the whole thing, decals and all. Is this possible? I've searched all over the internet and have... We use top of the line 3M High Gloss vinyl with a permanent adhesive. Let the vinyl cure on the mug for 48-72 hours to make sure it sticks really well. So do not get it wet for 72 hours! I will also run an embossing heat gun back and forth hovering over the vinyl and then press down really hard with my finger to make sure it adheres really well. This heats the vinyl glue a little. Our vinyl decals have a great durability as is. Most of the vinyl we use is Oracal 651 series 6-year (or better); it’s proven itself over the years and holds up great to the elements. The great thing about vinyl graphics is that the decals are in fact removable in case you decide on a change! RC Car with clear coated custom lettering decals. To avoid & be able to work out any bubbles, creases, or areas that don't want to lay perfectly flat, it's much easier to work in small areas peeling the paper backing so as not to "stretch" the vinyl. Remember, this is vinyl you are working with & vinyls will stretch slightly. Once countertop is done, then, do your backsplash same way. Before the vinyl came off you could tell there was yellowing. It was hard to really see any serious yellowing over the colored sections though it was there to some degree, but the white sections told an entirely different story. Of the 3, the highly touted, highly expensive Minwax Polycrylic yellowed the worst.

The same thing seems to happen to every set: Over time, the varnish begins to wear away and the adhesive starts to go as well. Once this happens, the wrap or sticker will begin to peel away. If your wrap begins to peel, you can try applying additional coats of polycrylic to keep the vinyl down and protected, but results can be mixed.
