The automatic transmission fluid in the Toyota Prius is an important aspect in keeping the vehicle's transmission running smoothly. The transmission fluid is responsible for lubricating the gears and components within the transmission so that it does not seize up or become damaged.

Prius c transmission fluid change. The average cost for a Toyota Prius V transmission fluid change is between $189 and $223. Labor costs are estimated between $132 and $167 while parts are priced at $57 . I’d talk with transmission shops and research online. I believe in a regular fluid and filter change every 30,000 miles. If the only way to change the fluid is a complete exchange, that interval is probably excessive. If I couldn’t find good answers and had to wing it, I’d probably get the fluid exchanged every 60,000 miles. I own a 2012 Prius C. I need to replace the transmission fluid due to being at 65k miles. I cannot locate the fill plug. I have ordered a Haynes Motor Manual but it is horribly inept. Toyota Prius / Prius C / Prius Plug-In / Prius V 2014, ATF WS Automatic Transmission Fluid by AISIN®. He has some great photos and information if you want to gain a deeper understanding of the system. 1st Gen Prius transmission fluid change by Hobbit. When they say the CVT is good for life it means the CVT's life is up when the fluid goes bad. Best to change it every 50,000 miles unless you have so much money that buying a new transmission is easier. The fluid in the Prius transaxle does get dark over time, (it is nice and red new) conatminents are present in the fluid at this time. Preventive maintenance is just that, you are trying to maintain your vehicle to prevent a break down or component failuire. Any "lifetime" fluid means lifetime of the warranty in the manufactures eyes. In theory, sealed hubs should never wear out. They are sealed so the grease can't get out or dirt in. But heat, and wear and tear break the grease down. Same for the transmission fluid. It REALLY is easy to change.

Some recommend replacing the fluid when tests show viscosity drop, others say to change it every 60K miles, others (like me) never change it at all. Internally, the fluid in the hybrid transaxle has the same service it does in a manual gearbox. It lubricates a planetary gearset, but the gears always stay in contact. The Toyota Prius c (c stands for "city"), named the Toyota Aqua ("aqua" is Latin for water) in Japan, is a full hybrid gasoline-electric subcompact/supermini hatchback manufactured and marketed by Toyota Motor Corporation. The Prius c is the third member of the Prius family, and combines the features of a Yaris-sized car with a hybrid powertrain. The Prius c is priced lower than the conventional. However, PriusChat members on the other side of the pond suggest at least a single change at 30k and then 60-100k thereafter. My prius is at 97k and wanted to change the fluid to prevent against any future problems with the hybrid transaxle. No need to bother with transmission fluid at such a short interval unless you're driving your Prius C like it's a race car (which I know you are not, because it is a Prius C and it is impossible to drive it like a race car!) Toyota spec's WS ATF as "lifetime" (which means "lifetime of the car's warranty", truth be told)... At 30k you're just fine.

Currently, it is a dealer-only fluid. Amsoil has not (yet?) certified their CVT fluid for use in the new CVT. Prius and other hybrids are the E-CVT and it is a completely different transmission. I would agree that 50-60k is a good change interval. This is a real gray area. You will see on this board that several people say you should change the fluid. I have faith in the Toyota engineers and will follow their recommendations. I don't plan to change the fluid while I own the car. The first reference I see to change the transmission fluid is at 120,000 miles if you use the car for towing. The engine in your 2005 Toyota Prius should be running when you perform a transmission fluid level check, otherwise it will be inaccurate. The video above shows where the transmission fluid dipstick is located in your Prius and how to check the transmission fluid level. Get a free detailed estimate for a transmission fluid change in your area from KBB.com You should change it at least every 30,000 miles to prolong the shifter’s life. There is a small square-shaped pan on the bottom of the transmission. Remove it every time during an oil change to allow more fluid to drain. The transmission can fail without any warning. 2. Transmission stops working suddenly In most modern cars, you shouldn't have to change the transmission fluid for the life of the car. According to Toyota, you should inspect (check the dipstick) your transmission fluid on a 2009 Prius (although this may not be your year model, it should be virtually the same) every 3 years or 30,000 miles under normal driving conditions.

I have a 2012 Prius C with little over ~100,000 miles never done any Transmission fluid changes. I follow the maintenance manual and other than saying to inspect the fluid it doesn't recommend to replace the oil at all. I have not had any issues, but my dealer looked at my service report and said " You have not done any trans fluid change?!".
